On-chain data roles are the quiet hiring boom

Indexers, subgraph authors and risk quants are harder to find than frontend dApp engineers.

A boom nobody's talking about

While DevRel and frontend dApp roles get most of the public hiring attention, on-chain data roles — indexing engineers, subgraph authors, and risk-focused quants — have quietly become one of the harder categories to fill in 2026.

Every serious protocol wants internal analytics

As protocols mature past their initial launch, nearly every serious team wants internal analytics infrastructure it doesn't have to rely on third-party dashboards for — accurate TVL breakdowns, incentive spend tracking, and real-time risk exposure across collateral types.

The skill combination that's scarce

The candidates who command outsized offers are the ones who combine strong SQL and warehouse design skills with the ability to decode raw traces and logs across multiple chains without relying entirely on off-the-shelf indexing tools. That combination is rarer than either skill on its own.

What this means for hiring plans

Teams building out risk or analytics functions in 2026 should expect indexing and data engineering roles to take longer to fill than comparable frontend roles, and should budget compensation accordingly rather than benchmarking against generic data engineering roles outside crypto.
